CommemorAction - Commemorating deaths and disappearances at the border

"Les sauteurs" ("Those who jump") Film screening + discussion

On 6 February 2014 the Spanish Guardia Civilat killed at least 15 people who tried to swim around the border fences that separate the Spanish exclave of Ceuta from Marocco. Approximately 400 people tried to swim across the border together. Those who were not killed and who managed to reach Spanish territory were violently pushed back to Marocco. Till today the perpetrators have not been brought to justice. Investigations in the case have been repeatedly closed. After an successful appeal to reopen the case a survivor of the event testified in March 2019 for the first time before the court. The proceeding is still ongoing.
