Veranstaltungsankündigung des fem:fest Mainz/Wiesbaden

with Mitali Nagrecha, Justice Collective Berlin
online via Zoom

During this session we will start with a brief historical overview of abolition, which today is a movement to end societies' use of punishment, including policing and prisons-and to replace these institutions with community-based alternatives. We will have an overview of what policing and punishment looks like in Germany today, including how punishment targets racialized groups and people experiencing poverty. We will conclude considering the implications of these realities for our movements against punishment, and for feminist struggle, including against gender-based violence.

Mitali Nagrecha is Founder/Coordinator of the Justice Collective, a Berlin-based project that acts to end societies' reliance on policing, punishment, and prisons . Mitali's research is focused on poverty, race, and punishment, including Germany's day fines system and racial disparities in punishment in Europe.
