Lesung und Buchvorstellung mit der Autorin Leslie Kern.

Gentrifizierung - was ist das eigentlich? Irgendwas mit Verdrängung in der Stadt? Und was können wir dagegen tun? Leslie Kern gibt einen umfassenden Überblick über die Debatten rund um das Thema Gentrifizierung. Sie geht den Mythen und Lügen auf den Grund und macht deutlich, dass gewaltsame Verdrängung eng mit Klasse, Rassismus und Sexismus verbunden ist. Aber können wir uns gegen Gentrifizierung wehren? Kern plädiert für eine dekoloniale, feministische und queere Anti-Gentrifizierungspraxis, die neben dem Recht auf Stadt für alle auch die Rückgabe von Land und Entschädigungen für Vertriebene fordert.
Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung wird Leslie Kern aus ihrem neuen Buch "Gentrifizierung lässt sich nicht aufhalten und andere Lügen..." lesen und wird einen Überblick über das Thema geben geben. Anschließend besteht die Möglichkeit, mit ihr zu diskutieren und Fragen zu stellen.
Leslie Kern ist eine feministische Geographin und Stadtforscherin aus Kanada. Sie ist Professorin an der Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Kanada. Neben ihrem aktuellen Buch über Gentrifizierung ist sie Autorin von "Feminist City: Claiming Space in a Man-Made World".

Author reading and book presentation with Leslie Kern: "Gentrification is inevitable and other lies"
Gentrification - what is it and what does it look like? What has it to do with displacement? And what can we do about it? Leslie Kern gives a comprehensive overview of past and current debates on the concept of gentrification. She scrutinizes the many myths and lies about this process and makes it very clear that violent displacement is closely linked to class, racism and sexism. But how can we resist gentrification? Kern argues for a decolonial, feminist and queer anti-gentrification practice that demands land restitution and compensation for displaced people alongside the right to the city for all.
On Tuesday, 02 May, Leslie Kern will read from her new book "Gentrification is inevitable and other lies" and talk about the concept of gentrification. After her talk, there will be time for questions and discussion with the audience.
Leslie Kern is feminist geographer and urban researcher from Canada. She is professor at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. In addition to her current book on gentrification, she is the author of the book "Feminist City: Claiming Space in a Man-Made World".
